Atomic #10 x 5 Questions = Katie Garber
Any business owner in Over-the-Rhine can tell you they spend some part of the day talking with “potential business owners”. People are curious, they are attracted to many of OTR’s assets and rightly consider OTR as a potential home for their business. The first time I spoke with Katie she wasn’t deciding if OTR should be the home for her Vintage Clothing and Home Accessories Store, she was making the final decision on which building she would occupy. I always enjoy conversations with people who have a clear vision of what they are going to do.
Here are the 5 standard questions and Katie’s clear-vision answers.
What do you do in Over-The-Rhine? I own Atomic Number Ten, a vintage clothing and accessories shop on Main Street. I’m also leading Second Sundays on Main via the Merchants of Main Street.
Why did you decide to set up business in OTR? I chose to open my shop in Over-the-Rhine for a couple of reasons. I love the historic architecture in the area and the diverse storefronts, the rent was affordable, and I received a Business First Grant from the OTR Chamber of Commerce, which made it possible to open a shop on a small budget. Also, I enjoy being a part of the diverse community in OTR.
Is there anything that has surprised you about working or having a business in OTR? I was surprised by the how much pride OTR residents have in their neighborhood and the encouragement from the other business owners in the area.
Do you have a favorite place you like to go in OTR? My favorite places to go in OTR are ForkHeartKnife, MOTR Pub, Iris BookCafe, Neon’s, Park+Vine, and MiCA.
If you had a magic wand what would you change in OTR? With a magic wand, I would make sure it’s always sunny and warm in OTR and make everyone appreciate the awesomeness of vintage clothing.
