Here are Dan’s answers to 5 quick questions!!!

1. What do you do in Over-The-Rhine?

I live in Over-the-Rhine. I own and operate Park + Vine in Over-the-Rhine. I play in Over-the-Rhine. I love Over-the-Rhine

2. Why did you decide to set up business/work in OTR?

Over-the-Rhine is the neighborhood that is most familiar to me in Cincinnati. I lived in New York City and Chicago for 11 years before deciding to come back to Cincinnati and open Park + Vine.  Over-the-Rhine was my first and only choice.

3. Is there anything that has surprised you about working or having a business in OTR?

Originally I thought most of our supporters would come from downtown and Over-the-Rhine. Reality is that 9 out 10 people who shop at Park + Vine come from other places, which is exciting to me. Still, we’ve seen an uptick in the number of Over-the-Rhine residents shopping in the store since we relocated to Main Street in October 2010. Our only guess is that more people currently live on Main Street than Vine Street.

4. Do you have a favorite place you like to go in OTR?

I spend most of my disposable income in Over-the-Rhine. Aside from my own store, of course, I’m a regular at MOTR, forkheartknife, Tucker’s Restaurant on Vine, Findlay Market, Incredible Creations, yoga row studios, iris bookcafe and mica 12/v.

5. If you had a magic wand what would you change in OTR?

Halt demolition of all buildings, fill all Main/Vine/Findlay Market storefronts, turn old SCPA building into a residential/arts complex, convert at least one building into a tenement museum and another into a youth hostel, ride Cincinnati Streetcar daily, put Central Parkway on a road diet (turn median into an actual park, add bike boulevard, restrict cars at least once a week), introduce Little Italy/Chinatown sections to Findlay Market. I could go on. Love this question!
