Things to do in OTR: September 14-16

Looking for fun things to do this weekend?  Head on over to the Gateway Quarter and check out what we have going on!

Saturday, September 15, 10 am-4pm:  The City Flea at 12th and Vine

The City Flea is the project of a couple from Cincinnati who have lived in Chicago, Los Angeles, and most recently New York and picked up some inspiration along the way. The Flea sprouted after its creators moved back to the Queen City and saw first hand that the city is now teeming with creativity, energy, and people who are excited about selling, shopping, and staying local. Whether it be by browsing through vintage clothing, band posters, handcrafted goodness or sipping coffee along with something delicious to eat from food trucks and other artisan style foods, The City Flea aims to change what the term “flea market” means to everyone who sets foot within its boundaries.

Saturday & Sunday, September 15-16, 12pm-10pm: Cincinnati Celtic Festival in Washington Square Park

Don your kilts, grab your bagpipes and make your way down to Washington Park for a weekend of authentic Celtic fun! Produced by 3CDC and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, the 2012 Cincinnati Celtic Festival will offer patrons a chance to enjoy and savor plenty of traditional Celtic merchandise, art, food and music. Festivities will span from noon to 10PM on Saturday and Sunday, and will feature special musical and dance performances from Silver Arm, The Irish Theatre Company, the McGing Irish Dancers, Celtic Rhythm, The Blue Rock Boys and many, many more.

Dine on traditional Irish fare like piping hot shepherd’s pie, corned beef sandwiches, and potato pancakes or indulge festival favorites like cotton candy, funnel cakes and snow cones. But the fun doesn’t stop there! There will also be plenty to do and see as you make your way around the park. Browse rows of artistic offerings, wood carvings, home décor and hand beaded jewelry from the folks at Madmor Creations, JB Custom Carpentry, and Green Dragon. Or, find out what wonders your future holds with a unique tarot card reading, courtesy of the mystical Patricia Gray.

The 2012 Celtic Fest will also feature a very special treat for Cincinnati Reds Fans. This Saturday ONLY, the first forty men and women to arrive at Washington Park wearing a kilt will be eligible to receive two FREE tickets (plus two drink vouchers) to the September 26th Reds game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Tickets are first come, first serve and can be redeemed at Washington Park’s main concession stand by the Civic Lawn.

Friday at 8 pm, Saturday at 2pm and 8pm, Sunday at 2 pm (and running through September 23):  Good People by David Lindsay-Abaire, directed by D. Lynn Meyers, at Ensemble Theater of Cincinnati

Good People follows Margie Walsh who is facing eviction and scrambling to catch a break. Laid off from her job at the dollar store, Margie is faced with the reality that South Boston is providing her the same level of opportunity it always has: none. Wry, rough around the edges and ready to make a change, she goes to seek out the one who got away – both from “Southie” and from her. Instead, she finds herself in the ‘burbs and out of her element, facing the question: is opportunity granted or earned? Good People takes an affectionate look at the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’ through the eyes of characters who won’t be ignored.Instead, she finds herself in the ‘burbs and out of her element, facing the question: is opportunity granted or earned?
